The Opioid Technology Summit (the Summit) is a two-day technology event from Dec. 4-5, 2017, at the Sheraton Premier Hotel in Tyson's Corner, Virginia. The Summit will provide an opportunity for government practitioners and industry experts to jointly explore the intersection of public safety and public health.  The participants will discuss how these two diverse areas can come together to create technology solutions addressing the opioid crisis.

BACKGROUND

The President has declared the opioid epidemic a national health emergency.  This epidemic is devastating families and communities, overwhelming medical providers and straining prevention and treatment efforts and resources.  At the center of our responses to this crisis are information and data needs, sharing, and coordinated responses and mechanisms.  Public safety and public health practitioners and industry must work collaboratively to find solutions that address the complex, cross-domain and cross-jurisdictional issues that challenge our response to the opioid crisis. Together we can help turn the tide on this epidemic. The time to act is now.

GOALS

At the Summit, attendees will discuss five to six areas that are considered to be the most important issues impacting the opioid crisis or our ability to respond, and that can be substantially or entirely solved by a technology solution

At the conclusion of the event, Summit organizers, with assistance from participants, will develop a white paper on tangible and specific recommendations for action.  Other Summit products to be considered are the development of a catalog of success stories, and a peer to peer directory facilitating contacts between individuals interested in solving the opioid epidemic.

AGENDA

The agenda will address the following topic areas: response, success stories, public safety and public health collaboration, information sharing, analytical tools, Prescription Drug Monitoring Program transferability, and bridging the gap from policy to technology.  Following is the tentative agenda:
